What is IVF and how is it done?
The complete 8-step IVF journey — from the first consultation to the pregnancy test — explained clearly, with durations and practical tips.

Consultation and evaluation
You meet your doctor. Your story, medical history and any previous treatments are reviewed; the first examination and ultrasound clarify the approach that suits you best.

Hormone tests and imaging
For women, hormones such as AMH, FSH, LH, estrogen and prolactin are measured; the uterus and ovaries are evaluated with detailed ultrasound. A semen analysis is requested for men; genetic screening is planned if needed.

Ovarian stimulation
Individually dosed hormone injections are started so that multiple eggs develop instead of one. Growth is monitored with regular ultrasounds and the timing of the trigger shot is determined.

Egg retrieval (OPU)
When the eggs mature, they are collected under light sedation with ultrasound guidance using a special needle. You feel no pain; the procedure takes 15-20 minutes and you are discharged the same day.

Fertilization (IVF / ICSI)
The retrieved eggs are taken to the embryology laboratory. In classic IVF, eggs and sperm are left to fertilize naturally; in ICSI, the embryologist injects a single sperm directly into each egg. The method is decided with you in advance.

Embryo development
Fertilized eggs develop into embryos: 6-8 cells on day 3, blastocyst stage on day 5. Our embryologists monitor and grade every embryo daily; the best one is selected for transfer and the rest can be frozen.

Embryo transfer
The selected embryo is placed into the uterus with a thin catheter. The procedure is painless, requires no anesthesia and takes about 10 minutes. Afterwards you can return to normal life; just avoid heavy exercise.

Pregnancy test
A beta-hCG blood test is done 12-14 days after transfer; this is the definitive confirmation of pregnancy. If positive, our pregnancy follow-up team takes over. If negative, we sit down together and plan the next step — you are not alone.
