Genetic Testing (PGT)
Screening embryos for chromosomal and single-gene disorders before transfer.
Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) analyses a few cells taken from embryos during IVF to screen for chromosomal or inherited disorders before transfer. Selecting only healthy embryos increases the chance of pregnancy and reduces the risk of miscarriage.
Types of PGT
- PGT-A: Screening for chromosome number abnormalities (aneuploidy — e.g. Down syndrome)
- PGT-M: Single-gene disorders such as thalassemia and cystic fibrosis
- PGT-SR: Structural chromosome rearrangements (translocation carriers)
Who is it recommended for?
- Women aged 37 and over
- Couples with recurrent pregnancy loss
- Recurrent implantation failure
- Couples carrying a known genetic disorder
The biopsy is performed at the blastocyst stage by our experienced embryologists without harming the embryo; embryos are safely vitrified until the results arrive.
